Turn GitHub issues into tasks
Set up an integration so issues with a label, or comments starting with /agent, create tasks — and the issue gets a comment with the result.
Create the integration
Dashboard → Settings → Integrations (administrators) → new GitHub integration. Choose the project the
tasks go to, the label (default agent) and the comment command (default /agent). Copy the webhook URL
and the secret — the secret is shown once.
Add the webhook on GitHub
Repository → Settings → Webhooks → Add webhook:
- Payload URL: the webhook URL (
<PUBLIC_URL>/api/v1/hooks/<id>) - Content type:
application/json - Secret: the secret
- Events: Issues and Issue comments
The control plane must be reachable from GitHub. Deliveries without a valid X-Hub-Signature-256 are refused.
Let it reply (optional)
Create an organization secret holding a GitHub token that may comment, and set Token secret for replies to its name. The issue then gets a comment with the task link when the task is created, and another when it completes, fails or needs attention. For GitHub Enterprise, set the API base URL.
Using it
- Open an issue with the
agentlabel, or add the label later: one task per issue. - Comment
/agent add a test for the empty cart caseon an issue or pull request: a task from the rest of the comment, with the issue as context. Comments by bots are ignored.
Tasks are created on behalf of the member who created the integration. If that person leaves the organization, deliveries are refused until someone recreates the integration.
Redeliveries return the existing task; an issue opened with the label and labelled again creates one task.
